Frequently asked questions
HBB VMS PRO FAQ
Direct answers about installation, IP cameras, monitoring, recording, investigation and remote access.
What is HBB VMS PRO?
HBB VMS PRO is VMS software for Windows designed for camera monitoring, recording and investigation. It combines Live View, mosaic, detection, events, timeline, snapshots, HBB Player and Web access features.
Does HBB VMS PRO work without an Internet connection?
Compatible local functions such as monitoring, detection, recording, timeline and local storage continue to work without Internet access. Remote access requires a connection.
Which Windows versions are supported?
The current version is intended for 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Which cameras and protocols are prioritized?
The commercial priority is IP cameras with ONVIF and RTSP. H.264 is recommended, while H.265 is supported when the camera and installed components allow it. HTTP/MJPEG may be used when available; USB and DroidCam are secondary compatibility options.
Does every Wi-Fi camera work with HBB VMS PRO?
No. Compatibility depends on what the camera actually provides. Closed models that only work through a proprietary app and do not expose ONVIF, RTSP or another usable source may not be compatible.
How do I find an IP camera on my network?
Open Camera Settings. Scanner PRO looks for local sources and ONVIF devices; Full Scan remains available when a broader search is needed.
Do I need the camera username and password?
Only when the camera requires authentication. After selecting the device, enter the required credentials and use Test Connection before saving.
How can I confirm that I selected the correct camera?
Use Test Connection and wait for the Real Preview. Save the camera only after confirming the correct image.
Can HBB record automatically when motion is detected?
Yes. With Detection enabled and a monitored area configured, occurrences can generate automatic events. Manual recording remains a separate feature.
Can I view multiple cameras at the same time?
Yes. Mosaic View allows several configured cameras to be monitored on the same screen. Controls apply to the selected camera.
Where are recordings stored, and what happens if I rename a camera?
Records are organized by fixed CAM1, CAM2, CAM3 and later slots, together with date and file type. Renaming a camera must not mix files or change its storage identity.
Can HBB Player open external MP4 files?
Yes. In addition to HBB recordings, HBB Player can open external MP4 files through Windows and provides pause, frame-by-frame navigation, zoom and snapshot without modifying the original video.
How does remote access work?
HBB Web provides browser access. For access outside the local network, HBB Remote creates a secure address; remote access requires Internet connectivity and remains protected by the HBB Web PIN.
What happens if the recording drive becomes unavailable?
HBB must not silently switch to another drive. Viewing functions may remain available, while actions that require recording or export are blocked until the configured storage becomes available again.
